KAWS The Message
Description from the Publisher - Marsilo Arte:
A new site-specific installation for the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi offers a unique perspective on Renaissance architecture.
Creativity can manifest itself in a thousand different ways: from street art to sculpture, not to mention collaborations with fashion brands and the world of television. KAWS, born Brian Donnelly, knows a thing or two about this. He is, in all respects, one of the most prized artists among major collectors and beyond: one of the trendiest names of the moment, and some say he could even overshadow the great genius of Banksy.
Born in Jersey City in 1974, he was fascinated by graffiti and the underground scene from a young age.
After moving to New York, he graduated from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan in 1996 and began collaborating with Walt Disney, working primarily as an illustrator. His desire to experiment with ever-changing forms and media has allowed him to establish himself first in the world of television, then as a sculptor and street artist, and today as a designer for several well-known clothing brands.
KAWS brings toys, illustrations, and pop culture to museums around the world. His paintings abstract the familiar with shifts in perspective, bold color blends, and clean lines; His characters and figures melt into our imagination. KAWS is a master of collaborations: his recent clothing line with the Sacai brand, to partnerships with brands like Uniqlo, Sesame Street, Star Wars… followed by a long etcetera.
