KAWS x Human Made x sfmoma- 2025
In 2025, the collaboration between the Japanese streetwear imprint HUMAN MADE and the artist KAWS delivered a sharp, minimal drop timed to the opening of his exhibition “KAWS: FAMILY” at the SFMOMA. The release featured three graphic T-shirts- each crafted in HUMAN MADE’s signature slub-yarn cotton, cut with a rounded-body silhouette and durable double binder neck. The front of each tee carried a simple co-brand motif while the back showcased one of KAWS’s distinctive artworks rendered in muted tones. The drop also included SFMOMA-exclusive pieces (like tote bags) that extended the collaboration beyond apparel, turning the exhibition into a street-culture moment. The items were launched online and via the museum store, creating a bridge between gallery audience and fashion collector.
This edition felt like a subtle evolution of the HUMAN MADE x KAWS vernacular. Instead of overt logos or bold brute-force graphics, the pieces married HUMAN MADE’s refined attention to craft (made in Japan cotton, texture-rich slub yarn) with KAWS’s contemplative graphic language. The result was elevated streetwear with a nod to gallery sensibility - wearable art, not hype-only. Given the limited nature of the release and its tie-in with the SFMOMA exhibition, it instantly became a collector’s item while still staying grounded in everyday layering.
