KAWS: FAMILY Opens Tomorrow at SFMOMA
Tomorrow marks the public launch of KAWS: FAMILY at SFMOMA, with VIP previews having run from November 13–14 and general admission beginning November 15 2025. This exhibition is the third stop of the FAMILY Exhibition tour, after the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto and the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Arkansas. This stop also represents KAWS’s first major museum show on the West Coast.
KAWS: FAMILY brings together over 100 works spanning three decades of KAWS’s creative output: from early street-tag experiments, through paintings and sculptures, to his commercial collaborations and public art. The centerpiece, the 2021 bronze sculpture FAMILY, clusters his characters COMPANION, BFF and CHUM into a tender portrait of unity and emotion.
Held on the fourth floor of SFMOMA, the show is curated to create “families” of related works and invite visitors into KAWS’s universe of shared cultural references and emotional undercurrents. Whether you’re a longtime follower of KAWS or coming fresh, this is the kind of moment where street sensibility, design culture and serious art converge.
