KAWS x Commes des Garcons - 2007
KAWS and Comme des Garçons first crossed creative paths in 2014—on the “Girl” fragrance for Pharrell—before collaborating directly on KAWS’s own fragrance and apparel. These projects show how KAWS’s signature Companion aesthetic adapts across different mediums.
Early Touchpoint
KAWS’s earliest link to CDG appears in 2007, when Comme des Garçons enlisted him for the “Sparkling Party” campaign that yielded graphic product and T-shirts.
Pharrell’s Girl fragrance, 2014
KAWS designed the bottle for Pharrell Williams’s unisex fragrance Girl, which was created and released through Comme des Garçons Parfums in 2014. The scent launched with distribution through Dover Street Market and select retailers. (1, 2)
Mirror by KAWS, 2021
In 2021, KAWS and Comme des Garçons Parfums released Mirror, KAWS’s first fragrance under his own name. It debuted in mid-October through Dover Street Market locations and specialty stockists. (3, 4, 5)
CDG SHIRT × KAWS, 2021
Also in 2021, the CDG SHIRT line rolled out a capsule with KAWS that featured T-shirts, button-downs, outerwear, bags, and graphics built around Companion and CHUM motifs. The collaboration was shown in FW21 presentations and released at CDG. (6, 7)
Why it matters
Together these projects show how KAWS’s visual language translates into object and garment design, from sculptural bottles to everyday apparel, while maintaining the core identity that collectors recognize.
