KAWS x Dior BFF Plush - 2019

By 2019, KAWS had already built a bridge between street-art sensibilities and upscale branding. His BFF figure, a fuzzy, fur-covered version of his Companion character with X-eyes and wild hair, had appeared in more accessible editions but remained deeply tied to limited-edition culture. Dior, under its younger creative direction at the time, recognized the cultural weight of KAWS’s world and brought the BFF into its own realm of craftsmanship, premium materials, and exclusivity. The result was roughly 500 numbered pieces in two colorways (black and pink), each retailing for about $7,500.

The plush itself wears a mini Dior outfit, either a denim jacket or a formal suit, retaining the BFF’s fluffy texture, exaggerated contours, and signature X-eyes while reinterpreting them through a luxury lens. The piece quickly transcended “toy” status and became both a collectible art object and a fashion trophy. Auction results confirmed its desirability, with resale values soaring well beyond retail. The Dior × KAWS BFF Plush captures the point where fine art, design, and fashion converge, showing how both brands used collaboration to amplify cultural relevance during the peak of luxury’s flirtation with street culture.
