Mad Hectic - Kubrick - 2003
Released in 2003, the Kubrick by KAWS × Mad Hectic reinvents the classic 400% Medicom vinyl with a reflective silver Companion-style figure standing approximately 11 inches tall in a collectible limited run.
This edition merges KAWS’s bubbly Companion torso, complete with signature X-eyes, onto the boxy, jointed 400% Kubrick form. Made of shiny silver vinyl and stamped with both KAWS and Medicom branding, the figure measures roughly 11 x 7 x 7 inches. It reflects KAWS’s early interest in blending toy culture with street art influences outside of traditional gallery settings. The contrast between the minimalist Kubrick format and KAWS’s stylized anatomical features gives the figure a distinctive identity that still feels contemporary.
Produced in collaboration with Medicom Toy and Mad Hectic in 2003, the figure was released in a limited run of approximately 300 pieces. Each unit is individually numbered, adding to its collector appeal. While not widely circulated at the time, it quickly became a prized item within the KAWS community, especially among fans of his Japan-based collaborations. Today, the Kubrick Mad Hectic stands as a rare bridge between KAWS’s graffiti roots and his rise in the designer toy world.
