KAWS x Clipse - 2009 and 2025

KAWS has provided standout cover art for Clipse's major releases across two distinct eras: their final album in 2009, Til the Casket Drops, and their comeback in 2025, Let God Sort Em Out. Both covers became visual touchstones, marking transitions in Clipse’s music and cultural footprint.

Til the Casket Drops (2009)

For their third studio album, KAWS crafted a bold, color-blocked design that featured a literal casket at the center, framed by stylized “X” eyes and whimsical graphic forms. The image echoed the album’s dichotomy—the raw narratives of street life intertwined with polished, Pharrell-backed production. It stands as an early example of fine art shaping rap album identity. Let God Sort Em Out (2025)

After a 16-year hiatus, Clipse returned with Let God Sort Em Out, releasing it independently in July 2025. KAWS again provided the artwork, this time showing a disassembled Companion-like skeleton and gloved hands “sorting” the figure—mirroring the album’s themes of judgment and introspection while flexing a bold visual metaphor. Why It Matters

Bracketing their discography, these two KAWS designs illustrate how the artist has become a visual storyteller for Clipse—first bringing a literal casket forward, then crafting a conceptual “sorting” scene years later. The symbolism evolves, but the collaboration remains uniquely consistent in bridging rap and art.
