Edition Size: 1000 per color

In 2010, KAWS teamed up with American sculptor Robert Lazzarini to reinterpret the Companion through heavy distortion, applying Lazzarini’s signature warping techniques to create a surreal, melting figure. The series was released in three colorways—black, grey, and brown—all featuring painted cast vinyl with stamped signatures of KAWS/Lazzarini and Medicom Toy China. Each figure measures approximately 7 inches tall, though slight size differences exist across the colors due to the distortions.

Each colorway was released in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces, retailed at roughly $980, and was sold through OriginalFake and select galleries. The set was highly regarded for its craftsmanship and creative boldness, blending Lazzarini’s subversive sculptural manipulation with KAWS’s pop art icon. The Distorted Companion set continues to turn heads at auctions and galleries, where complete sets still fetch well above retail, solidifying its place as a standout collaboration in both artists’ catalogs.
