Released on August 28, 2009, the KAWS x Undercover Bear figure was a limited vinyl release created in partnership with Jun Takahashi’s Undercover label. The sculpt features a seated version of Undercover’s recognizable bear character, complete with its textured fur, menacing grin, and round ears. KAWS applied his signature X-eyes to the figure and added a small Companion cradled in the bear’s lap, creating a quiet contrast between aggression and tenderness. The bear is not dressed or stylized with KAWS’s usual gloves or shoes, staying faithful to its original Undercover design while incorporating just enough of KAWS’s visual language to shift its tone.

The figure was produced by Medicom Toy and sold through OriginalFake and select Undercover locations in Japan. Each colorway, black and white, was limited to 500 pieces and retailed for approximately $135 USD at the time. The drop sold out quickly and has since become one of the more understated but beloved collaborative releases from KAWS’s OriginalFake era. Its unique pairing of two cult design icons helped bridge the worlds of designer toys and Japanese fashion without relying on flash or heavy branding
