KAWS brought his fuzzy BFF into vinyl in 2017, splitting the debut between MoMA Design Store for Blue and KAWSONE for Black, a clever one-two that hit both museum retail and the direct collector crowd. Pink landed in 2018, sealing BFF’s run as a modern staple in the open-edition lineup.

BFF emerged in 2016 as a towering public sculpture at Central Embassy in Bangkok, introducing a furry, electric-blue figure that carried KAWS’s X-eyes, gloved hands, and cartoon scale into a new texture. The character arrived alongside a limited BFF plush program that helped define its look before the vinyl release, with the Bangkok installation and early retail drops laying the groundwork for the figure’s broader appeal.
The rollout became part of the story. On October 18, 2017, MoMA Design Store handled the Blue release at 10 a.m. Eastern while KAWSONE dropped the Black figure at noon the same day. Both sold at $280 and stood around 13 inches, large enough to feel sculptural on a shelf without tipping into oversize territory. Pink followed on March 27, 2018, with a coordinated MoMA and KAWSONE release, turning what started as a museum-store exclusive into a wider moment for the character.
