Marking the fifth anniversary of the original Companion Figure, KAWS released “Five Years Later," a refined update to the original vinyl figure, featuring a bulkier build and straighter posture that marked KAWS’s evolution from street icon to sculptural designer.

Five Years Later refines the 1999 template into something more grounded, with thicker limbs, a fuller torso, and a posture that reads steady rather than slouched. The X-eyes, gloves, and skull silhouette remain, but the volume shift is the story, a matured Companion that carries more physical weight and a clearer presence on a shelf or plinth.
The vinyl released in 2004 through Medicom Toy, produced in editions of 500 per color and stamped on the underside “KAWS..04 / MEDICOM TOY 2004 CHINA.” Alongside Grey, Black, and Brown, two glow-in-the-dark versions appeared, one with blue eyes and one with green eyes, all measuring roughly 14.75 inches tall and originally priced at $500.
