Bendy - 2003

Bendy is one of KAWS’s earliest characters, first seen in his 1999 ad interventions, later reimagined in 2003 as a limited-edition vinyl figure with a playful, abstract form.

Retail Price: $50
Edition Size: 500 Per Color

Arriving in the early 2000s moment when KAWS’s visuals were jumping from city streets to collectible design, BENDY distilled the essentials, X-eyes, crossbone “ears,” and a coiled tail, into a single line that feels quick and graphic. The silhouette is minimal by design, which is why small choices matter here, the S-curve posture, the narrow footprint, and the way the head’s proportions keep the face readable even at a distance.

The first run released in 2003 through Medicom Toy, with six colors at 500 pieces each, stamped “KAWS..03 / MEDICOM TOY / CHINA.” Height is consistently listed around 13.75 to 14.5 inches, and the original retail was $50. Packaging was a clear clamshell with branded insert, a detail that helps distinguish first-run pieces in the secondary market.
