Dissected Companion - 2006

The first Dissected Companion pulls the curtain back on KAWS’s most famous figure, showing the anatomy beneath the X-eyes and gloves. Released in 2006 in black, brown, and grey, it marked a shift toward larger, more sculptural vinyl that still felt accessible to collectors.

Retail Price: $500
Edition Size: 500

That year KAWS and Medicom Toy launched the OriginalFake boutique in Tokyo’s Aoyama district, featuring a three-metre Companion statue with a dissected half revealing internal organs and skeletal structure. This thematic display was matched by a vinyl version in smaller form, available in black, brown, and grey. With this edition limited to 500 units, the piece became iconic among fans and quickly turned collectible.

These figures weren’t mass produced through typical channels but were tied directly to OriginalFake’s brand rollout. They show an early experiment by KAWS exploring anatomy and structure within his beloved Companion form. That move prefigured later dissected releases, and now this 2006 Flayed version stands out as a pivotal, under-the-radar piece in his career.
